2024

UHCL celebrated its 50th birthday

2022

May: Dr. Walker was officially appointed UHCL's 6th president.

September: University of Houston-Clear Lake and Boeing signed a contract enabling Boeing to offer engineering students entry level employment experience and internships that support multiple projects

2021

October: Richard Walker became UHCL's interim President, making him the sixth President.

November: The new illuminated UHCL and HAWK letters installation, proclaiming UHCL is HAWK territory.

2019

May: University of Houston-Clear Lake at Pearland celebrated the formal grand opening of the three-story, $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building.

2018

June: Hunter Hall, UHCL's first Residence Hall broke ground. 

September: UHCL's new Recreation and Wellness Center opened its doors. 

September: UHCL's STEM building opened its doors.

2017

March: University of Houston-Clear Lake broke ground on March 31 for the construction of a $38.2 million Recreation and Wellness Center. 

April: University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus broke ground on a three-story, $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building that will allow expansion of programs in nursing and other healthcare careers. 

June: Ira K. Blake became UHCL's fifth President and first woman to lead the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

2015

May: University of Houston-Clear Lake held a special ceremony to mark the dedication and naming of the Pat and Wendell Wilson Park. Through a special legacy gift from the Wilsons and a vision to protect the university's natural setting, the enhanced park will include a native garden and more inspired by UH-Clear Lake Associate Professor Emeritus Patricia Potter Wilson and Capt. Wendell M. Wilson.

November: UH-Clear Lake Alfred R. Neumann Library's Constitutional Literacy Collection features films and books for a variety of ages, ranging from children's picture books to scholarly tomes about America's early history and government.

2013

Hunter the Hawk was founded and announced as the name of UHCL's mascot during a special presentation at its annual I HEART UHCL Day event.

2011

March: Texas Chiropractic College and University of Houston-Clear Lake introduced their dual-degree program

October: University of Houston System representatives and University of Houston-Clear Lake administrators watched as Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed the bill granting UH-Clear Lake the authority for downward expansion, which would allow the upper-level university to add freshman- and sophomore-level courses to its roster. Perry signed Senate Bill 324, which was presented by state Sen. Mike Jackson. A similar bill, House Bill 706 presented by state Rep. John Davis, had been approved previously by the Texas House of Representatives.

November: Environmental Institute of Houston celebrated the completion of a new wetlands project with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The wetlands project represents a partnership with the Galveston Bay Estuary Program, a program of the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality that not only provided funding but also project volunteers.

2010

March: Distinguished Alumna and Clear Creek Independent School District Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Tina Farrell made history when she became the first UH-Clear Lake student to receive a doctoral degree during one of the university's fall 2009 commencements. She received a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership.

August: The University of Houston-Clear Lake's Pearland at UHCL Grand Opening

2009

The signing agreement with Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City/Center for International Education to develop an online bachelor's program for the students in Vietnam who cannot travel to the United States.

2007

University of Houston-Clear Lake's first Doctoral class graduated.

2006

The installation of "Consilience" in the Student Services and Classroom Building was created. Artists Paul Marioni and Ann Troutner designed the windowed art to describe the unity of knowledge or the tying together of science and the humanities.

2004

University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrated it's 30th birthday.

The Student Services and Classroom Building (SSCB) opened.

2001

New Space for NASA Johnson Space Center's Information Systems Directorate Archives was created.

1995

William A. Staples became University of Houston-Clear Lake's fourth President.

1994-95

The University of Houston-Clear Lake and Environmental Institute of Houston came together to create the environmental education program.

1991

Thomas M. Stauffer became University of Houston-Clear Lake City's second President.

1978

Construction for the Developmental Arts Building started.

1977

The installation of Pablo Serrano's monumental bronze sculpture Spiritus Mundi of 1976 took place on campus on April 12, 1977. The Spiritus Mundi takes its name from the Latin concept for humanity's spiritual source. The title, given by Alfred Neumann - the founding chancellor of the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

1976

A reading session was held by Jeff Carrette of Guatemala; and his mother Mrs. Edward Carrette at the Diagnostic Education Center.

1974-75

The Arbor Building was built.

The University of Houston-Clear Lake City was created and Alfred R. Neumann was named the university's first President.
